
Thomas M. Buchsbaum, Dr.iur., MPhil (Cantab.), is currently Austrian Ambassador to Poland – previously to Iran. Born in Vienna, he graduated from Vienna and Cambridge universities and spent post-graduate education and research in Paris (Paris-I), London and The Hague.
After internships at the Council of Europe and the European Commission as well as at the Austrian National Defence Academy, he served at Austrian Embassies in Damascus, Budapest, Algiers, New Delhi, Tokyo and Teheran, twice at the Austrian Mission to OSCE, and as special advisor to the Secretary-General of the Council of Europe.
At the Austrian Foreign Ministry’s headquarter in Vienna he served in the Western Europe, African, Middle Eastern, OSCE and International Law Departments, and as director of the citizenship, expatriates, health and social issues department.
He has published on OSCE, Council of Europe, (e-)democracy and (e-)voting issues.
